A customer using water presses in their facility was looking for a product that would increase the length between maintenance times on a cartridge, and lower the overall inventory cost.
The customer was changing out a conventional oil hydraulics counterbalance valve monthly. A lot of time was spent replacing the cartridges, and a sizable inventory was kept due to the high turnover rate of the components. The current part they were using was designed for use in a conventional oil hydraulics system, and did not stand up to the highly corrosive water environment.
Elwood was able to evaluate the existing system and design a custom stainless steel cartridge that fit into the existing cavity of the counterbalance valve. After testing, the components were able to extend the life of the cartridge exponentially and successfully decrease the amount of inventory needed to support the cartridges.
Critical Application Solution at Tri-Sen Systems
In a critical application, Tri-Sen Systems was unable to find a coated cartridge that could stand up to normal hydraulic fluids with contaminates. After 36 months, longer life was expected out of the components.
Elwood was able to provide a stainless steel cartridge that was placed in the same system which showed little-to-no wear over time. The technology Elwood has installed on the existing system was able to provide a peace-of-mind to the user that the safety critical operation would work if ever needed to be put into use.
The customer states "when the Elwood components were removed for evaluation, they looked the same as they did the first day they were installed."
