Converging Conveyors
Collision and jamming of cartons where two conveyors merge can be
prevented with photoelectric timing controls.
A photoelectric timing control is positioned with the light beam
across the main conveyor, just prior to the point where a tributary
joins it.. A photoelectric control with a simple on/off function is
positioned across the tributary at the point it joins the main
conveyor.
Control relays of the two photoelectric controls are connected in
parallel to the motor starter circuit of the tributary conveyor.
Each carton on the main conveyor opens the timing control relay,
which is held open (through the time delay) until the carton passes
through the merging area.
Each carton on the tributary conveyor opens the on/off control
relay, which stays open until the carton passes through the light beam
and is on the main conveyor.
When the timing relay and the on/off relay are open, the tributary
conveyor stops, holding the carton in the beam until th timing relay
closes.
