Void Detection

Large open spaces on conveyors often interfere with processing. If open spaces cannot be entirely prevented before they occur, they can at least be detected and fixed using photoelectric timing controls.

Ordinary part traffic trips the photoelectric control periodically. Each part passing before the control starts the automatic timing period. If other containers trip the light beam before the timing period expires, the photoelectric control will not be actuated.

However, if the timing period expires before the control is again tripped, the photoelectric control actuates, stopping the conveyor and sounding an alarm.

Similar applications of photoelectric controls can be used in filing, packing or assembling operations where a missing part or container causes trouble.
