Short Dark Time
Counters require an energized signal for a certain amount of time
to operate. For example, pencils on a conveyor are too small to
provide enough dark time for the control to operate an electric
counter.
Pencils move on the conveyor at 125 feet per minute, which affords
0.010 seconds dark time and 0.250 seconds light time. However,
through a time delay, the photoelectric timing control borrows from
the light time, increasing the 0.010 second dark time to 0.050
seconds, ample to operate the counter.
Notes
- Objects to be counted must still interrupt the light beam for not less
than the minimum dark time specified for the photoelectric control
circuit.
