Hole Detection

An incandescent photoelectric control and sensor array can detect a hole as small as 1/6'' in diameter moving as fast as 600 FPM.

The array contains a line of closely-spaced high-speed light sensors mounted behind a cylindrical lens. Flood lights are mounted above them, and the web passes between the lights and sensors. When a hole flaw passes over the sensor, light momentarily falls onto one or more of the sensors, causing the control relay to actuate.

The control has a time delay feature to ''stretch'' the brief light signal to a length adequate for a positive relay contact reversal. With the short delay range in the control, and effect similar to an on/off function can be achieved.
