Direction Detection

In order to count or otherwise detect people moving past a point in one direction without also counting movement in the other direction, two controls and two relays or other switches are used.

The two controls are mounted next to each other with the beams directed across the point being monitored, in such a way that person must interrupt one beam before the other. The relays are wired such that the counter operates only when the beams are interrupted in the correct order.
