Load Change

Automatic equipment of all kinds can be protected where slight overloads may cause spoilage or damage equipment. For example:

• Surface grinders can be protected against excessive pressure being applied.
• Machine tools can be protected when tools become dull.
• Controllers may be regulated which automatically apply lubrication, adjust rate of feeding, change pressure, or make any adjustment that effects the load.

This is different than simple overload protection which shuts off equipment when a sustained over-current condition occurs. Instead, surge detection allows either equipment shutdown or warning indicators (lights, alarms, etc.) the instant that a machine operates above some preset load.
